Multisensory Teaching |
If learning to read and spell are unexpectedly difficult and frustrating, a student very often needs a different way of teaching than he or she has previously experienced. That way of teaching will be direct, systematic, sequential and interactive. It is termed “multisensory” teaching, and it enables a student to make sense of the structure of the English language.
For many students, it will be the first time they have been able to see there is a way to “crack the code” of reading and spelling. While multisensory teaching methods are especially important in the acquisition of reading and spelling skills for students who struggle, they actually benefit all learners through helping them better understand the structure of the English language and the rules that govern its use.
